For Further Savings, Look Beyond Conventional Utility Distribution Systems

Most people who work in the foodservice industry associate Utility Distribution Systems (UDS) with cooking equipment under a hood. The truth is, UDS equipment – designed to conveniently organize connections for gas, electric and water lines into a single access point – is actually much more versatile than most realize.

While originally designed to establish connections for cooking equipment, the UDS has since expanded to other uses, such as supplying power to prep tables and serving lines. Without this option, there is a limited number of affordable solutions for linking equipment to the appropriate power source.

Boring through floors or walls to establish a connection can quickly become an expensive proposition because it requires the contractor to make extremely precise measurements to tap into the correct utility line. Using extension cords and plugging into multiple outlets also has some serious drawbacks. Depending on where your equipment needs to be positioned and how far away the power source is located, cables on the floor can escalate safety issues by introducing tripping hazards into the kitchen environment.

Avtec manufactures a variety of utility solutions, beyond standard cooking equipment, that address the specific connection and distribution needs of commercial foodservice operators.

Avtec’s overhead Power Chain provides a solid electrical distribution system that keeps dangerous cords off the ground and puts them closer to where your foodservice staff needs them, maintaining a more ergonomic and cleaner look in the kitchen. Made of non-magnetic stainless steel, the Power Chain can be customized to any length.

Avtec’s Electrapole provides greater flexibility in situations where portability and mobility are primary concerns. Utilizing a ceiling-mounted receptacle box, the Electrapole can be especially useful in multi-purpose or common rooms, such as assisted living facilities and other impromptu areas. The Electrapole can also be made with an adjustable foot for easy installation and removal for storage when not needed. This adds a convenient power source in locations where outlets are often scarce, such as in the middle of a room. With up to 80 amps of service capacity, the Electra pole is strong enough to supply a full serving line, providing a convenient solution when the need arises to expand your foodservice operations anytime, anywhere.

Finding solutions to your foodservice operation’s utility needs doesn’t have to be a complicated affair. The experts at Avtec can help you find a cost-effective strategy to power your equipment and make improvements to your process that will pay dividends down the road.
